Airtel gives R1m to university foundation

Seychelles Nation - 01.12.2008

It is through knowledge and a strong base of qualified human resources that we create wealth for society, said Dr Rolph Payet, chairman of the Seychelles University Foundation (SUF) on Friday.

The cheque presentation ceremony

He was speaking at the presentation of R1 million to the SUF by local telecommunications company Airtel at State House.

Bharti Airtel executive director Syed Safawi and Airtel chief executive Vinod Sud presented the cheque to Vice-President Joseph Belmont in the presence of senior Airtel officers and members of the SUF.

Dr Payet said the government notes the commitment of local organisations to laying the foundations for the country’s sustainable economic development by investing in education.

Before he accepted the cheque, Mr Belmont said the government is happy with the continuous mutual collaboration and equally grateful for the benefits gained from the services of this expanding company.

The presentation followed a pledge made by Mr Sud, on behalf of Airtel and its directors, during a ceremony earlier this year at the Wharf Hotel and Marina.
